A lot of people are scared to get their hair cut, leaving it too damaged to look like it's even growing, mostly because their parents cut all of their long hair off to a short bob when they were young and have been left traumatised. Or a hairdresser has cut way too much off leaving you unhappy.
Let me explain some things to you.
When having your hair cut, show your hairdresser exactly how much you want off with your fingers and hands on your hair. Many people have different ideas as to how much an inch is. Depending on what your hair is like: curly, straight, thick thin, damaged, these factors all play a part in your haircut. When your hair is wet it stretches, so when your hair is combed wet it's longer therefore when it's dry it goes back to normal and or bounces up, this makes it fairly easy to cut off more than intended.
Personally I try my hardest to make this not happen and cut the actual amount off, sometimes even less just to make sure, then I can always cut more when its dry. I understand hair is very personal and I will never force, but advise you as to how much I should cut. I know from personal experience a little cut can make the biggest difference especially when the cut is wrong.
My hair has stopped growing!
That's not true, your hair is growing hence your regrowth usually. When you don't get your hair cut, your hair becomes split from a number of causes (colouring, heat,weather,pollution,clothes... ). Your hair can split all the way up if you don't get your ends tended to. Hair breaks off at the ends but still grows from the root, if the ends are snapping off you won't achieve the long hair that you wish for.
Allot of my clients have over processed hair from colour and heat damage leaving their hair very uneven, sometimes it's burnt and feels course, sometimes it has completely split off leaving tufts of hair in random places. The best thing to do is get it cut off, traumatic.. sometimes yes, sometimes not really.. I will always give my honest opinion and show you where your hair is broken and where I need to cut to, yes it usually leads to you saying OMG THAT'S SO MUCH NO WAY!!!!! so we start with a little and you come back every 6 weeks so we can work on getting your hair to good health.. and level. As some damaged hair becomes diagonal or jagged.. quite frankly a mess. Conditioning will help but in most cases the damage has gone too far.
Getting your hair back to what it should be takes a long time, especially when you do it one cut at a time, but if you listen to my advice & treat your hair kind you WILL see and feel the difference.
A haircut is recommended every 6-8 weeks.
